The value of the following two options determines how the Air module speciates a source's emission rate:
Do not calculate vapor composition for emission models, use defined composition check box in the Material Composition and Properties section on the Material form
Speciation Type field on the Process Unit Material Emission Calculations form.
The table below provides a description of emission rate speciation for each option combination. Refer to VLE Molecular Weight Speciation Configuration for information about vapor/liquid equilibrium calculations and molecular weight configuration.

How does the Air Module speciate a source's emission rate in this situation? |
Option selected |
No Speciation |
The emission rate is not speciated. The entire emission rate is associated with and stored for the Mixture Material, and not for individual components of the Mixture Material. |
Option selected |
Standard Speciation |
The emission rate is speciated. No vapor/liquid equilibrium calculations are done to come up with the speciation %'s.). Instead, the phase composition associated with the Mixture Material’s defined Component Basis is used for speciation purposes. (This may or may not match the typical concentration of the Mixture Material.) |
Option selected |
Selective Speciation |
The emission rate is speciated for only those Mixture components that are associated with the Speciated Group defined in the emission model. No vapor/liquid equilibrium calculations are done to come up with the speciation %s.). Instead, the phase composition associated with the Mixture Material’s defined Component Basis is used for speciation purposes. (This may or may not match the typical concentration of the Mixture Material.) |
Option selected |
Use Vapor Composition |
The vapor weight % concentrations defined for the Mixture Material are directly used to speciate the emission rate. (No vapor/liquid equilibrium calculations are done to come up with the speciation %s.) |
Option selected |
Use Liquid Composition |
The liquid weight % concentrations defined for the Mixture Material are used to speciate the emission rate. (No vapor/liquid equilibrium calculations are done to come up with the speciation %s.) |
Option selected |
Use Solid Composition |
The solid weight % concentrations defined for the Mixture Material are used to speciate the emission rate.(No vapor/liquid equilibrium calculations are done to come up with the speciation %'s.) |
Option not selected |
No Speciation |
The emission rate is not speciated. The entire emission rate is associated with and stored for the Mixture Material, and not for individual components of the Mixture Material. |
Option not selected |
Standard Speciation |
The emission rate is speciated into the individual components of the Mixture Material based on vapor/liquid equilibrium calculations. (The properties and vapor pressure methods of the individual components are used for the vapor/liquid equilibrium calculations.) |
Option not selected |
Selective Speciation |
The emission rate is speciated into the individual components of the Mixture Material based on vapor/liquid equilibrium calculations. Only those Mixture components that are associated with the Speciated Group in the emission model are speciated. 100% of the unspeciated emission mass is appropriated with the materials in the Speciated Group based on the vapor/liquid equilibrium calculations. (The properties and vapor pressure methods of the individual components are used for the vapor/liquid equilibrium calculations.) |
