On the Determination Method form, enter entity-specific codes for methods used to develop or estimate a number or model, such as a source emission model. "Stack test" and "Engineering estimate" are examples of determination methods. For TRI/SARA reporting, associate each of the methods you establish with a basis of estimate code/classification:
C—Estimate is based on mass balance calculations
O—Estimate is based on other approaches such as engineering calculations
M1—Estimate is based on continuous monitoring data
M2—Estimate is based on periodic/random monitoring data
E1—Estimate is based on published emission factors
E2—Estimate is based on site-specific emission factors
Select the determination method for the TRI Basis of Estimate field on the Process Unit Material Emission Calculations form for Process Unit Emission Models and Process Unit Maximum Potential Emission Models. If a basis of estimate code/classification is not associated with a determination method, the method will not be available for selection in the TRI Basis of Estimate field. For non-TRI/SARA reporting, such as state emission inventory reporting, leave all of the basis of estimate codes/classifications blank and select the determination method for the Other Basis of Estimate field on the Process Unit Material Emission Calculations form. Just the methods without an associated basis of estimate code/classification will be available for selection in the Other Basis of Estimate field.
Regardless of the purpose, all determination method codes must be unique.
To enter determination methods
Click Data
Entry > Validation > Determination Methods in the Navigation Tree.
The Determination Methods list
appears.
Click the New
button.
The Determination Method form
is displayed.
Type a unique Determination Method Code.
Enter an identifiable Description and any Comments for the determination method.
Select a Basis of Estimate code/classification for TRI reporting; do not select a basis of estimate code/classification for non-TRI reporting, such as state emission inventory reporting.
Click Save.
Repeat steps 2 through 6 to add other determination methods.
