Equipment Categories

Review the common regulatory classifications of components that were shipped with Essential on the Equipment Categories form. Examples are valve, pump, flange, control device, and compressor. Use equipment categories to classify components and to indicate the type of equipment that a regulation applies to. For example, NSPS has specific monitoring requirements for pumps.

Additional equipment categories can be established. Each equipment category must be assigned a Datalogger Code (up to 3 characters). The code is required for the Essential FEMS module to interact with a datalogger because most dataloggers can only accept short fields. The longer equipment category name will be used in the software.

For each equipment category, equivalent entries in different languages can be defined. For example, a "Pump" category in Spanish, "Bomba", could be specified. When localization has been implemented, the Culture setting assigned to a user determines which value is displayed in field lists on Essential forms. Enter the corresponding equipment categories and associate each one with the appropriate language in the Language Dependent Equipment Categories section.

Because equipment categories are broad classifications, they are not very useful when locating a specific component. For example, there are several different types of valves. Therefore, the FEMS module divides up equipment categories into many equipment types on the Equipment Type form. For example, "Tandem Pump" could be entered as an equipment type under the"Pump" general equipment category.

Assign the appropriate equipment category and type to each component on the Tag form. Document the equipment categories a regulation pertains to on the Rule Definition form.
