Exposure limits are established concentrations which, if not exceeded, will generally not cause adverse effects to the worker exposed. For example, the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) developed the exposure limit TLV (Threshold Limit Value), often expressed as TWA (Time-Weighted Average). TWA is the time-weighted average concentration for a normal 8-hour workday and a 40-hour work week to which nearly all workers may be repeatedly exposed without adverse effect. Use the limits developed by organizations such as ACGIH or set your own entity-specific limits.
On the Exposure Limits form, enter the name of the exposure limit, such as TLV. For each exposure limit, equivalent entries in different languages can be defined. For example, a "1 Hour" limit value in Spanish, "1 Hora", could be specified. When localization has been implemented, the Culture setting assigned to a user determines which value is displayed in field lists on Essential forms. Enter the corresponding exposure limits and associate each one with the appropriate language in the Language Dependent Exposure Limit section.
Once exposure limits have been established, you can associate limits with a particular governing body on the Governing Bodies form. Enter values for the exposure limits on a material-by-material basis on the Material form. Define exposure limit values for non-chemical stressors in the Exposure Limits section on the Non-chemical Stressor Details form.
