On the Transportation Information form, enter various shipping paper descriptions, including proper shipping names, hazard class/division numbers, UN/NA identification numbers, and packing groups, that have been established by a governing body. For example, the Department of Transportation publishes shipping paper descriptions that must be included with material shipments. Other information, such as required labeling, packaging authorizations, quantity limitations, and vessel stowage requirements, can be included on the form.
For each proper shipping name, equivalent entries in different languages can be defined. For example, a "Flammable liquids, corrosive" name in French, "Liquides de flammible, corrosif", could be specified. When localization has been implemented, the Culture setting assigned to a user determines which value is displayed in field lists on Essential forms. Enter the corresponding proper shipping names and associate each one with the appropriate language in the Language Dependent Transportation Information section.

Governing bodies, such as the Department of Transportation, require you to affix certain precautionary labels to containers of hazardous materials being shipped. For example, you may be required to label a material as Corrosive. Validate a list of labels on the Transportation Label form and associate the labels with the appropriate shipping paper description in the Required Labels section on the Transportation Information form. The labels specified in this section will become a list of suggested labels on the Material Transportation Information form when you are building a material's shipping paper description.
To associate precautionary
labels with transportation information
Locate the shipping paper description on the Transportation Information list, click the link to open the Transportation Information form, and expand the Required Labels section if necessary.
Click Add Required Label and select a transportation Label from the list.
Click OK.
The label is displayed as a line item in the Required
Labels section. Edit existing label assignments using the buttons
adjacent to the line items.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 to add other labels.
Click the Save button on the form.
More detailed shipping information, called Special Provisions, can include packaging requirements, exceptions from requirements for particular quantities or forms of materials, and special requirements applicable to specific modes of transportation. Enter the special provisions for the shipping paper description in the Special Provisions section on the Transportation Information form.
Packaging authorizations refer to specific regulatory sections in 49 CFR Part 173 on exceptions, nonbulk packaging, and bulk packaging. You can enter these authorizations in the Packaging Authorizations section on the Transportation Information form.
The Exceptions field is used to indicate the regulatory section that authorizes exceptions to packaging requirements.
The Nonbulk Packaging field is used to indicate the regulatory section that governs the appropriate requirements for nonbulk packaging.
The Bulk Packaging field is used to indicate the regulatory section that applies to the appropriate bulk packaging requirements.
Quantity limitations restrict the amount of material that may be transported in one package by passenger-carrying aircraft or railcars and cargo aircraft. If a governing body sets limits for a material, enter the limitations in the Quantity Limitations section on the Transportation Information form.
In the Vessel Stowage Requirements section on the Transportation Information form, enter vessel stowage requirements for passenger-carrying and cargo vessels. For example, in the "Hazardous Materials Table", a code letter A indicates that the hazardous material may be stowed on deck or under deck on passenger or cargo vessels.
For each proper shipping name, equivalent entries in different languages can be defined. When localization has been implemented, the Culture setting assigned to a user determines which value is displayed in field lists on Essential forms. Enter the corresponding proper shipping names and associate each one with the appropriate language in the Language Dependent Transportation Information section on the Transportation Information form.
