A Command Hierarchy models user-defined emergency response, governmental, and daily corporate organizational structures in a tree format based on command areas and functions. Command Hierarchies are associated with incidents, Daily Log events, and injury/illness occurrences via the Watch List and are used for assigning and releasing personnel, resources; and teams, thereby providing a visual representation of current deployments.
Use the Command Hierarchy Library to build and maintain your standard command hierarchies so they will be readily available during a time of crisis and for your routine daily operations. A default command hierarchy based on the standard ICS structure is shipped with the software
The Command Hierarchy layout contains two panels. The left panel displays the hierarchical tree. The right panel lists user-defined command functions filtered by command area. For example, a command area might be "ICS Positions" with associated command functions such as "Area Commander", "Claims Specialist", and "Liaison Officer". Drag a function from the right panel and drop it in the appropriate position of the hierarchy in the left panel. The new tree node appears in bold and italic font until the hierarchy is saved. The standard Windows view/hide control that determines whether (-) or not (+) hierarchy levels are displayed is available.

Tip: Command hierarchies can also be set up via the Watch List Command Hierarchy tab.
When accessing the Command Hierarchy
form via the Watch List, begin
with step 3.
Click Data Entry > Plans and Procedures > Command Hierarchy Library in the Navigation Tree to access the Command Hierarchy Library list.
Click the New button to open the Command Hierarchy form.
Enter a unique name for the Command Hierarchy that will be easily identifiable when needed.
Select an Area
from the list. The functions associated with the selected Area are
listed in the right panel of the Command
Hierarchy form.
If the applicable area and/or function is not listed, click the Ellipsis button and add it.
Drag a function and drop it in the
hierarchy. A highlighted tree node indicates the function being dragged
will become a child of that node.
Newly added tree nodes appear in bold and italic font until the hierarchy
is saved.
Repeat the drag-and-drop process
until all levels have been added.
Tip: When a function is dropped in the hierarchy, it
no longer is displayed in the list of functions. Should a function
apply to multiple hierarchy levels, save the hierarchy record and
re-select the Area to re-display
a full list of functions.
Click Save.
Repeat steps 2 through 7 to add other Command Hierarchies to the library.
To remove hierarchy tree nodes
Locate the hierarchy on the Command Hierarchy Library list and click the link to open the Command Hierarchy form.
Display the node to be removed by using the standard view/hide control when necessary.
Select the node to be removed and right-click.
Select the Remove
Node option and click OK
in response to the confirmation message.
The node no longer appears in the hierarchy.
Click Save.
The Watch List Command Hierarchy tab is use to associate one or more command hierarchies with an incident, Daily Log, or injury/illness record. Existing hierarchies can be selected from the Command Hierarchy Library and can be used as is or edited as needed. Once a command hierarchy is associated with the incident, Daily Log, or injury/illness record, any changes made do not affect the copy in the library.
New command hierarchies can also be specifically built for an incident, Daily Log event, or injury/illness occurrence, or specifically built for the Command Hierarchy Library on the Watch List Command Hierarchy tab. The Add New to Incident and Add New to Library links, respectively, are available to complete these functions.
