A stressor is defined as any hazardous substance or condition that can cause mental or physical damage in the workplace. Stressors are classified as either "chemical" or "non-chemical" in the Essential Industrial Hygiene module.
Chemical stressors are the stressors validated on the Material form. Maintaining your chemical stressors on the Material form lets you use any material stressors already validated for use in other modules. For example, if regulatory, composition, and property information for Benzene has been entered, the same information does not need to be reentered for use in the Industrial Hygiene module.
Non-chemical stressors can include Physical, Biological, Ergonomic, and Air Contaminant type stressors. On the Non-chemical Stressors form, establish non-chemical stressors, categorize those stressors by type, enter a unique stressor ID, and enter a description of the stressor. Identify the non-chemical stressor as noise-related to include sample results for the stressor in noise-related TWA calculations. An example of a non-chemical stressor is "Continuous Noise" and "Noise" is an example of a type of physical stressor. Enter regulatory and exposure limit information for non-chemical stressors on the Non-chemical Stressor Details form.
For each non-chemical stressor, equivalent entries in different languages can be defined. For example, a "Repetitive Movement" stressor in German, "Sich wiederholende Bewegung", could be specified. When localization has been implemented, the Culture setting assigned to a user determines which value is displayed in field lists on Essential forms. Enter the corresponding non-chemical stressor names and associate each one with the appropriate language in the Language Dependent Stressor section.
