Use the Parameter Master Group form to establish parameter data entry groups that consist of multiple parameter groups. Master groups are used to expedite data entry on the Parameter Group Data Entry form by allowing parameters from multiple entities to be assigned to a single group and by simplifying the parameter group selection process on the form. Parameter groups categorized as Data Entry Only or Both can be added to a parameter master group. Each parameter group can be added to more than one parameter master group.
When a parameter master group is selected on the Parameter Group Data Entry form, each parameter group that is part of the master group is displayed as a separate section on the form—just as if each group was selected individually using the Select Parameter Groups link. The sort order of the monitoring parameters in each group is also maintained as well as any special instructions or other descriptive information. However, the data entry fields displayed for each group are controlled by the fields defined in the Data Entry Grid Configuration for the master group; i.e., the master group's configuration overrides the parameter group's configuration.
Note: The ability to select a frequency date/time on the Parameter Group Data Entry form is maintained only if ALL of the parameter groups that are included in the master group have been assigned the same frequency and a recurrence pattern has been defined for that frequency.
Just one master group or one-to-many parameter groups can be displayed on the Parameter Group Data Entry form at one time. If a user has been granted access to at least one parameter master group, the Select Parameter Master Group link is available. When a master group is selected, the groups in the master group replace the existing groups (if any) displayed on the form—whether those groups were part of a different master group or individual parameter groups.
For instruction on parameter master groups, click the following links or use the scroll bar to scan the page.
Users with appropriate permissions can specify which user login accounts have access to a particular parameter master group in the Users section on the Parameter Master Group form. The logged-in user is automatically added as an approved user login account when the master group is created. User login accounts without access to a parameter master group or without Parameter Group Administrator/Power User authorization cannot access the master group on the Parameter Group Data Entry form. In addition, a user must be assigned to a parameter group that is part of master group in order to view and enter data for the group on the Parameter Group Data Entry form.
For example, assume the "ABC Master Group" contains "Parameter Group A", "Parameter Group B", and "Parameter Group C", and the authorization described below has been granted for users Jane, John, and Mary. None of the users has Parameter Group Administrator/Power User permissions.

Since Jane has access to the master group and all its parameter groups, she can select the master group on the Parameter Group Data Entry form and view/enter data for each parameter group.
Since John has access to the master group, he can select the master group on the Parameter Group Data Entry form. However, because he does not have access to Group B, he will only be able to view and enter data for Group A and Group C.
Since Mary has no access to the master group, she cannot select the master group on the Parameter Group Data Entry form. However, she can select and enter data for the individual parameter Group C on the form.
User access can also be assigned to parameter groups by Contact Type. Using the same example, if John was assigned to Contact Type "Engineers" and the "Engineers" Contact Type was assigned to Group A, Group B and Group C, John would be able to select the master group on the Parameter Group Data Entry form and view/enter data for Group A, Group B, and Group C.
Parameter group access is assigned in the Users section of the Parameter Group form or in the Contact Types section. Refer to Parameter Group Access for additional details. Parameter Group Administrator/Power User authorization is assigned on the User Manager form. Refer to User Security Management for additional information.
On the User Setting form, a user can define:
a. | one default parameter master group |
|
OR |
b. | one-to-many default parameter groups |
that will be automatically displayed on the Parameter Group Data Entry form when it is opened by the user.
Just the groups the user has permission to access can be specified as default groups. Refer to Identifying Default Parameter Groups for additional information.
Parameter master groups apply to the following Essential modules:
Air
Air Parameter Data Entry
Water
Water Parameter Data Entry
Compliance Parameter Data Entry
Compliance Parameter Management
To enter parameter master groups
Click Data
Entry > Parameter Information > Parameter Master Groups
in the Navigation Tree.
The Parameter Master Groups
list appears.
Click the New
button.
The Parameter Master Group
form is displayed.
Enter a Name and Description for the master group.
Click Select
Parameter Groups in the Parameter
Groups section and select the parameter groups to be included
in the master group by clicking the check box adjacent to each group.
Just the parameter groups categorized as Data Entry Only or Both are
available for selection. Each parameter group can be assigned to more
than one parameter master group.
Click the Add
button.
Each parameter group selected is displayed as a line item in the Parameter Groups section. Click
the Delete button adjacent
to the line item to remove the parameter group from the master group.
Click the check box for each field to be displayed on the Parameter Group Data Entry form in the Data Entry Grid Configuration section. The Select All and Select None options are available to expedite the selection process.
The fields selected here override the configuration of the parameter groups included in the master group.
At the very least, the Value and Unit options should be selected so monitoring results can be easily entered directly on the Parameter Group Data Entry form.
The Attachments option allows document links and attachments to be added via the parameter line items on the Parameter Group Data Entry form. When displayed, a Yes/No link indicates if links/attachments exist and provides access to the Document Links section.
The Deviations option allows potential deviations to be flagged and tracked via the parameter line items on the Parameter Group Data Entry form. Users that have been granted the appropriate security privileges can enter and validate deviation information on the Deviation Details form.
The Picklist Values option allows user-defined picklist values to be selected via the parameter line items on the Parameter Group Data Entry form. If the parameter has not been associated with a picklist, no data entry field will be displayed for the parameter. If the parameter has been associated with a picklist but no values have been entered for the picklist, the field will be displayed with no list of values available for selection. Refer to User-Defined Picklists for additional information.
Click Add
Users in the Users
section to assign one or more users permission to access the parameter
master group. A line item is automatically established for the logged-in
user.
Users must also have access to the parameter groups that are part of
the master group or be assigned Parameter Group Administrator/Power
User authority to view and enter data for the parameter group on the
Parameter Group Data Entry
form.
Select the users with permission
to access the parameter master group by clicking the check box adjacent
to each user's name and clicking the Add
Users button.
Each user selected is displayed as a line item in the Users
section. Click the Delete
button adjacent to the line item to remove the user's access to the
master group.
Click the Save button on the form.
Repeat steps 2 through 9 to add other parameter master groups.
