Parameter Groups

On the Parameter Group form, categorize parameters to be used for:

The sections displayed on the Parameter Group form are based on the option selected for the group being established. All of the sections appear when the group is designated for data entry and PDM—subject to user security; element security applies to the Contact Types, Parameter Set, and Users sections.

Tip:  If the data on the Parameter Group form is read-only for an existing parameter group, the group may be part of a Parameter Set.

For instruction on parameter groups, click the following links or use the scroll bar to scan the page.

Establishing Data Entry Parameter Groups

Establishing PDM Parameter Groups

Establishing Data Entry Parameter Groups

Establish groups of parameters whose monitoring results are commonly entered at the same time on the Parameter Group form. Monitoring results for parameter groups are entered on the Parameter Group Data Entry form. For each parameter group:

To further expedite the data entry process on the Parameter Group Data Entry form, parameter groups can be assigned to parameter master groups. Refer to Parameter Master Groups for additional information.

Parameter Group Frequency

Assign a frequency with a recurrence pattern to a parameter group to enable functionality that can improve data entry accuracy on the Parameter Group Data Entry form. The frequency is used to determine expected intervals between monitoring results based on the recurrence pattern and the date/time of the last monitoring result entered. Interval dates and times are provided as options for the Result Date fields as an alternative to manually entering the date. For example, assume it is September 12, 2011, the recurrence pattern is Monthly, and the last monitoring result was entered on April 30, 2011 at 8:23:06 a.m. The following date/time options would be available for selection:

5/30/2011 8:23:06 AM

6/30/2011 8:23:06 AM

7/30/2011 8:23:06 AM

8/30/2011 8:23:06 AM

No future dates are provided. Consider the following when assigning parameter group frequencies:

Parameter Group Access

Users with appropriate permissions can specify which user login accounts have access to a particular parameter group in the Users section. The logged-in user is automatically added as an approved user login account when the group is created. User login accounts without access to a parameter group or without Parameter Group Administrator/Power User authorization cannot access the group on the Parameter Group Data Entry form. Parameter Group Administrator/Power User authorization is assigned on the User Manager form. Refer to User Security Management for additional information.

User access can also be specified by contact type in the Contact Types section on the Parameter Group form. All users with a contact type that has been associated with a parameter group will have access to that parameter group. Contact types are assigned to users in the Contacts section on the Enterprise Entity form and in the Assigned Enterprise Entities section on the User Manager form.

Tip:  For data entry purposes, a user needs access to the parameter group as well as the entity associated with the parameter group. Access to the parameter group can be granted via the Users or Contact Types section on the Parameter Group form or via Parameter Group Administrator/Power User authorization on the User Manager form. Entity access is controlled by the Entity Access security profile assigned to the user.

Default Parameter Groups

On the User Setting form, a user can define one or more default groups that will be automatically displayed on the Parameter Group Data Entry form when it is opened by the user. Just the groups the user has permission to access can be specified as default groups. Refer to Identifying Default Parameter Groups for additional information.

Parameter Group Relevance

Parameter groups apply to the following Essential modules:

Tip:  In addition to establishing parameter groups and assigning monitoring parameters on the Parameter Group form, parameter groups can be assigned to a monitoring parameter on the Parameter Definition form. Just the parameter groups associated with the entity assigned to the monitoring parameter are available for selection.

Establishing PDM Parameter Groups

Tag values are imported based on the entity and parameter group. Establish groups of parameters that have been mapped to tags whose monitoring results are collected at the same time on the Parameter Group form. For each parameter group, monitoring parameters from any parameter level (entity, process unit, production unit, or emission unit) can be assigned.

Users with appropriate permissions can specify which user login accounts have access to a particular parameter group in the Users section. User login accounts without access to a parameter group or without Parameter Group Administrator/Power User authorization cannot access the group in PDM-related forms, browse views, and form field lists. Parameter Group Administrator / Power User authorization is assigned on the User Manager form.

The Require Import Approver option is available to specify whether any parameter results imported for the group will need approval before they are actually transferred to your Essential database. Parameter group import approvers are assigned by entity and are authorized to approve pending parameter results. Approvers are also permitted to override parameter results prior to approval. A link to the Parameter Group Import Approver form is available on the Parameter Group form.

In the Notification Contacts section, identify the contacts who are to receive automatic email alerts for the parameter group. One or more contacts can be designated for each type of notification. The contact's email address provided in the contact and personnel record populates the recipient field and the email notification-related configuration file setting identifies the email sender.

A link to the Import Scheduler is available to establish a schedule of process data import jobs that run automatically according to the schedule configuration. Click the Schedule Automatic Import button. Jobs are set up based on the entity and parameter group. Refer to Process Data Manager Imports for additional information.

The Imports section provides a list of all active imports for the parameter group. The batch start and ends dates are provided along with the import date. Click the Review link to view batch records on the Parameter Group Import Review form or click the Log Report link to access the Parameter Group Log report.
